Tips To Making Your Own Sandalwood Vanilla Perfume Recipe

Both men and women have a love-hate relationship with perfumes. As the idea that what you smell can either make or break your heart continue to flourish, so does the eternal quest to find the best fragrance that could improve one’s inherent sense of scent. However, store-bought fragrances can be either expensive or too irritating to the nostrils. This is besides the fact that many are just plain impossible to wear on a humid and hot day. So, why not make your own? To jumpstart your quest, here’s an excellent sandalwood vanilla perfume recipe to start as your signature scent.

Why Sandalwood and Vanilla?

You might be wondering why sandalwood and vanilla? Well, as essential oils, these two elements are known for their astounding effects to the olfactories. Sandalwood oil, for instance, is known for its woodsy yet sweet smell. Its endearing aroma is frequently utilized as base for incense, cosmetics, aftershave, and, yes, perfumes. Chandana, sandalwood’s unique scent, is known to be calming to the point of being meditative. It exudes a lasting fragrance which doesn’t easily fade. It also makes a great insect repellent. Aside from that, sandalwood oil can be easiest to blend with other oils.

Vanilla, on the other hand, is a known aphrodisiac. The Aztecs hailed it as one of the most effective cure for male impotence and as a way to increase a person’s attractiveness to the opposite sex. The smell of vanilla also helps ease breathing issues and help to eliminate sleep apnea. It relieves stress and other nerve-wracking moments, too.

  • 4 tablespoons jojoba oil, olive oil or almond oil (as base oil)
  • 27 to 32 drops of sandalwood essential oil (according to your sense of smell)
  • 27 to 32 drops of vanilla oil (diluted in jojoba or another base oil)
  • 25 to 30 drops of grapefruit essential oil (or your choice essential oil)
  • 20 to 25 drops of bergamot essential oil (or your choice of essential oil)

Preparations

  • Begin by melting the beeswax via a double boiler over low heat.
  • Add jojoba oil (or your choice of oil) when it’s fully melted and immediately remove from heat when thoroughly blended. Be reminded that too much heat can damage the inherent qualities of essential oils. Jojoba oil also makes 2 years of shelf life while olive oil takes up to a year and almond oil, a little lesser at 9 months.
  • Wait for the mixture to cool down (at least 120-Fahrenheit) before putting in the essential oils.
  • Once blended thoroughly, pour into an airtight tin storage device to preserve the quality and scent.
